Obituary for Lloyd Gemmill

Lloyd A. Gemmill, 98, died at home May 31, 2018 following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Stewartstown, he was a member of Stewartstown UMC, Eureka Fire Co. and Hopewell Fish & Game. Lloyd lost his wife, Helen Jane (Trout) in 2007. They had been married July 4, 1947 and their almost 60 years of marriage was a story of love & partnership.

Lloyd was born February 15, 1920 to Roy L. and Mary E. (Seitz) Gemmill. He was the oldest of 9 children and is survived in his family of origin by his sisters Helen Wineholt, Doris Covell and brother Glen Gemmill. He was preceded in death by brothers Preston and Evans and sisters Phyllis Brinkman, Dorothy Bacon and Ethel Gemmill.

Lloyd served during WWII in New Guinea & Australia. He was a life member of the 32nd Infantry; American Legion Post 544 and the NRA. He was also a member of the VFW Post7046. During his lifetime he worked at the Stewartstown Furniture Factory, Red Lion Cabinet Factory, Bowers’ Drywall and Autokraft Box Corp from which he retired in 1985.
Lloyd is survived by his daughters Nancy Lewis (Wayne-deceased), Linda Wagner (Paul) and Cathy Taylor; his grandchildren Jennifer Wagner, Jason Wagner, Justin Gemmill and Kim Smith; great-grandchildren Jayden Heft, Skylar Heft, Hunter Wagner, Ethan Wagner, Aspin Mundis and Chase Lerew.

A Celebration of Life honoring Lloyd will be held at 11AM on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 19 S. Main St. Stewartstown with Rev. Dr. Keith O. Braucher officiating. Interment with Military Honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard will be held in Stewartstown Cemetery. The family will receive guests from 10AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc at the above listed address to help defray costs.
