Alfred Richard "Rick" Barbour

Alfred Richard “Rick” Barbour, Jr., 74, of Stewartstown, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his beloved family. He was the loving husband of Janice (Bradley) Barbour and they would have celebrated 52 years of marriage next month. Born in New York, NY, Rick was the son of the late Alfred Richard “Al” Barbour, Sr. and Marie (Clark) Barbour. Rick proudly served in the Navy and was a dedicated Assistant Scout Master and Cub Master for Troop 523 of Parkton, MD, and also served in the positions of the Baltimore Area Council Commissioner, Council Historian, and Chancellor of the University of Scouting, recently receiving recognition for his 45 years of service to Boy Scouts of America. He retired from the Baltimore City School System as Court Liaison for the Truancy Department.In his younger years, he worked as an Optician at Bradley & Herbert Optical and later as an Exterminator at Atlas Exterminating. Surviving in addition to his wife, Janice, are two children, Alfred Richard “Rich” Barbour III, and his wife Sarah of Atlanta, GA, and Nicole “Niki” Barbour Biggs, and her husband Brad of Bel Air, MD; 4 grandchildren, Genevieve, Layla, Jackson, and Nina Rae; a brother, Bruce E. Barbour of Queens, NY; and his sister’s children, Darin, Dawn, and Justina.He was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Barbour Gartner. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service celebrating Rick’s life on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown, PA 17363. If desired, memorial contributions can be made in Rick’s name to the Diamond Anniversary Capital Campaign for Boy Scouts of America, Baltimore Area Council, Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation to the attention of Brian Steger, Scout Executive/CEO - Baltimore Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, 701 Wyman Park Drive, Baltimore, MD 21211.
