Anna ‘Marie’ Saubel, 73, was ushered into Heaven by angels on Thursday, December 29, 2022. The loving wife of Steven R. Saubel, with whom she celebrated 40 years of marriage in June 2022, Marie was the daughter of the late Cowhick H. and Anna R. (Sherbocker) Miller. Born in New Freedom and a graduate of Red Lion High School, Marie began working at Saubel’s Market in 1977, eventually becoming the secretary and office manager after spending time behind the deli and bakery counters which featured many of her own recipes. In addition to serving the community at Saubel’s, her greatest pleasures were spending time with family and friends and being outdoors. Marie loved plants and flowers, created and maintained a splendid Koi pond, and filled beautiful decorative baskets, which were handcrafted by Steve, with flowers from her own garden. She was incredibly helpful, gracious, generous, and compassionate to all she met, and will be greatly missed.
Marie had a number of cherished friends with whom she enjoyed exciting beach, shopping, and other adventurous trips. She and Steve were a life members of the American Motorcycle Association and of the Harley Owners Group, actively riding their Harleys and enjoying time at their second home in the mountains, Bear Lodge. Marie was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hametown as well as an associate member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Triangle #483 in Shrewsbury.
Surviving in addition to her beloved husband, Steve, are McKenzie and Tucker Clauss, her ‘grandchildren’ in all but name; four siblings, Donald Miller, Cowhick W. Miller Jr., Fred D. Miller and his spouse, Joan, and Lila E. Kohler and her spouse, Jake; and 2 nephews, Robert Stiffler and Adam Saubel, and a niece, Kelsi Saubel.
