Antonietta Winfree

Antonietta Winfree, 91, of Red Lion, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024. Born in Naples, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Alberto Adamo and Carolina (D’Elia). She was the devoted wife to William Winfree Sr., who shared 43 years together before he passed in 2011.

Toni was a survivor, and found strength through adversity. She was orphaned at the young age of 7, lived through WWII in Europe, worked her way to London and eventually America, even teaching herself to speak English. She became a proud American citizen in 1974. She continued to keep in touch with her family in Italy through video calls.

Toni expressed her love through food, cooking often, especially traditional Italian meals. No one was a stranger to Toni, as she loved to socialize. She could make any one feel welcome, from family and friends, to her neighbors throughout the Equine Meadows Community. She was a member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Sons of Italy and PaceSetters.  She enjoyed sewing and crochet. Toni enjoyed games of any sort, including slot machines,  poker,  and card games.  She routinely played cards throughout the week with her community.  People described her as generous, kind,  funny and selfless.

Toni is survived by her 2 children, Brunella Elizabeth Winfree and William Winfree, Jr.; 3 grandchildren, Alisha Myers (Kyle Wentz), Danielle Rhea-Vickers (Aaron Vickers), and Monica Fordney (Austin Coleman); 5 great-grandchildren, Joseph Dean, Jeremy Dean, Aiden Wentz, Grayson Coleman, and Leo Coleman; and 6 great grand-dogs, Louie, Rocky, Penny, Diamond, Buster, and Cooper; along with many nieces, nephews, and family in Italy. She is preceded in death by her grandson, Ty Myers, Jr.; siblings, Maria, Francesco, Giuseppina, and Giovanna; Sam Dean; along with her beloved husband and parents.

A public visitation will be held Wednesday, March 6, from 11am-12pm at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church 315 N. Constitution Ave, New Freedom, PA 17349. A funeral liturgy will begin at 12pm in the church. A luncheon will follow at New Freedom Community Center. A second memorial service will be held in the future, in Italy, where the family plans to scatter the cremated remains of her and her husband  over the Mediterranean Sea.

Antonietta Winfree, 91 anni, di Red Lion, è deceduta giovedì 22 febbraio 2024. Nata a Napoli, in Italia, era figlia di Alberto Adamo e Carolina (D'Elia). È stata la moglie fedele di William Winfree Sr., con cui ha condiviso 43 anni di vita insieme prima della sua scomparsa nel 2011.

Toni era una combattente e ha trovato la forza attraverso le avversità. Rimasta orfana all'età di 7 anni, ha vissuto la seconda guerra mondiale in Europa, si è fatta strada a Londra e infine in America, ha imparato persino a parlare inglese da sola. È diventata un'orgogliosa cittadina americana nel 1974. Ha continuato a tenersi in contatto con la sua famiglia in Italia attraverso le videochiamate.

Toni esprimeva il suo amore attraverso il cibo, cucinando spesso, soprattutto piatti tradizionali italiani. Nessuno era un estraneo per Toni, che amava socializzare. Riusciva a far sentire tutti benvenuti, dalla famiglia agli amici, fino ai vicini della comunità di Equine Meadows. Era membro della Chiesa cattolica di San Giovanni Battista, dei Figli d'Italia e dei PaceSetters.  Le piaceva cucire e lavorare all'uncinetto. Toni amava i giochi di qualsiasi tipo, comprese le slot machine, il poker e i giochi di carte.  Giocava abitualmente a carte durante la settimana con la sua comunità.  Le persone la descrivevano come generosa, gentile, divertente e altruista.

A Toni succedono i due figli, Brunella Elizabeth Winfree e William Winfree, Jr. 3 nipoti, Alisha Myers (Kyle Wentz), Danielle Rhea-Vickers (Aaron Vickers) e Monica Fordney (Austin Coleman); 5 bisnipoti, Joseph Dean, Jeremy Dean, Aiden Wentz, Grayson Coleman e Leo Coleman; e 6 bisnipoti, Louie, Rocky, Penny, Diamond, Buster e Cooper; oltre a molti nipoti e familiari in Italia. È stata preceduta nella morte dal nipote Ty Myers Jr., dai fratelli Maria, Francesco, Giuseppina e Giovanna, da Sam Dean e dall'amato marito e dai genitori.

La visita pubblica si terrà mercoledì 6 marzo dalle 11.00 alle 12.00 presso la chiesa cattolica di San Giovanni Battista, 315 N. Constitution Ave, New Freedom, PA 17349. La liturgia funebre inizierà alle 12 nella chiesa. Seguirà un pranzo alle ore New Freedom Community Center. Un secondo servizio funebre si terrà in futuro, in Italia, dove la famiglia prevede di spargere i resti cremati di lei e del marito sul Mar Mediterraneo.
