Arlene G. Diehl (Bowser)

Arlene G. Diehl, 82, died Sunday, October 16, 2016, at ManorCare Health Services in York. She was the loving wife of the late Robert L. Diehl who died in 2015. A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Rev. Melissa McDade officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Born March 30, 1934, in New Freedom, Arlene was the daughter of the late Russell and Blanche (Matthews) Bowser. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Shrewsbury, as well as a former Sunday School teacher. Arlene retired from Southern School District in the mid 1970s after 25 years of service. She loved time spent with her family. Arlene enjoyed entertaining family and friends, playing cards, cooking, and traveling. Surviving is a son, Larry E. Diehl, and his wife Anna of York, a daughter-in-law, Cindy D. Diehl of Manchester; two grandchildren, Angie M. Soffer, and her husband David of York, and Steven K. Diehl, and his wife Trisha of York; three step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, Owen, Elliott and Claudia Soffer, and Colin and Madison Diehl; a brother, Russell Bowser, and his wife Donna of Maryland. She was preceded in death by a son, Steven R. Diehl, and a sister, Sylvia Brose. Memorial contributions may be made in Arlene's memory to Heartland H.H.
