Carolyn Joyce Thompson

Carolyn Joyce Thompson, 76, of Stewartstown, formerly of Waverly, MD passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 following a hard-fought illness. Born on April 30, 1946 in Baltimore, MD; she was an only child to the late Roy E. and Ella Lorraine (Storch) Webster.  She was the loving wife of Raymond F. Thompson of Stewartstown; together they celebrated 58 years of marriage.

Joyce’s life was dedicated to loving her family and those around her. After graduating high school, she completed 2 years of training to receive her cosmetology license.  She faithfully worked as a Police Crossing Guard for 32 ½ years in the Baltimore City School District prior to retiring in 2013. She was passionate about her career and provided countless positive interactions with the children and staff she was working with. It was an honor to be able to serve the community and she was proudly recognized with an evening assembly to celebrate her role as a Police Crossing Guard. Later, Joyce became member of the Green Thumb Garden Club in Red Lion. She enjoyed spending time riding her tractor and mowing the lawn. She also loved sewing, listening, and dancing to 60’s & 70’s music, and caring for her cats.

In addition to her husband Raymond, she was blessed with two children F. Annette Skidmore and her husband James “Jimmy”, and Raymond F. Thompson III and his wife Susan C.; five grandchildren J. Nathan Skidmore, Jr. and his wife Summer, Patrick S. Skidmore and his wife Chelsea, Megan L. Skidmore, Robert F. Thompson, and Kaitlyn A. Thompson; six great grandchildren Caroline, Melody, Lila, James, Emma, Samuel; cousins Mariann Fitzpatrick, Robert Shores and Genet Meers.

A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 1:00 – 5:00pm at Stewartstown VFW; 25 North Main St. Stewartstown, PA

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be given in Joyce’s name to: Heavenly Paws Animal Shelter; 144 Roosevelt Ave., Suite 206, York, PA 17401 or to a local animal shelter.
