Charles “Chuck” Anthony Chlumsky, a resident of Shrewsbury, PA died peacefully at the age of 80 on Wednesday, November 16, 2022. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Sue Ann Chlumsky in which they had shared almost 48 years of marriage.
Born on June 18, 1942, in Baltimore, MD to his parents Milton J. and Elizabeth B. Chlumsky , Chuck was a graduate of the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute majoring in electronics, engineering and mathematics and was also a student at the University of Baltimore. Chuck was also a proud veteran serving in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He began his career working for Dictaphone then shifting to Western Electric which merged to Lucent Technologies in Hunt Valley, MD in which he had spent 30 plus years as a Senior Business Analyst, eventually retiring in 1997.
Chuck was a devoted C atholic and longtime parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church of New Freedom, PA and was also a member of the American Legion of Harrisburg, PA. A man of many talents, Chuck was an avid flat pick acoustic steel guitar player in which he primarily taught himself also extending to playing banjo, 12 string guitar , accordion, and harmonica . He was the founder of St. John the Baptist’s religious folk group, “Daystar” in which he took great pride performing not only for his own parish but ventured to neighboring churches and even at local festivals. Other than music, Chuck enjoy ed woodworking, especially carving walking sticks and even had expertise as a leather craftsman. He had a passion for yard sales and could always find him on a weekend of ventures looking for the best deals. Chuck also enjoyed the sport of golf not only playing with his friends but also collecting clubs of all sorts. Other activities he really enjoyed was singing, hiking, fishing, hunting, and camping.
There was nothing more import ant to Chuck than his kids and family which he would do anything in the world for. A man with the biggest heart and a personality that warms the room which everyone he met was attracted to. He loved to kid but cared for those who were close st to him.
Surviving are his children, Susan Casey, her husband Mat t hew and their son, Jackson of Shrewsbury, PA, Christopher Chlumsky and his wife Irina of Columbia, MD and his sister Nancy Richardson and her husband Patrick of Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Viewings will be held from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm on Friday, November 25 th , at the Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. A funeral liturgy will begin at 11am Saturday, November 26 th at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, with Rev. Mark T. Wilke officiating. Interment will follow the service at St. John the Baptist Cemetery .
