Charles T. "Jack" Schmidt

Charles T. “Jack” Schmidt, 79, died Weds. Dec. 1 of heart failure at York Hospital. He was the husband of Phyllis (Leftwich) Schmidt for 59 years. A memorial service will be at 1 pm on Fri. Dec. 23 at Stewartstown United Methodist Church, 26 S Main St, Stewartstown, PA 17363. He was born April 9, 1937 to the late Betty and Charles Schmidt and raised in Dundalk, MD. After graduating from DHS in 1955, he married Phyllis and began working for Owens Yacht Co. He later joined, and retired from, the Baltimore County Fire Department. In 1981 he and Phyllis purchased the Sunset Motel in Henderson Harbor, NY, where they enjoyed meeting new people and hosting friends, family, and guests. In 2002 they moved to Stewartstown. He was past president of the Stewartstown Lions and a member of the Stewartstown United Methodist Church. Jack deeply loved his family. He also enjoyed being outdoors, especially on Broad Creek. Because he LOVED people, no one was a stranger for long around Jack. He will be greatly missed. Jack is survived by his wife; children, Kimberly Munchel and husband Eric, Timothy Schmidt and wife Kimberly, Daniel Schmidt and wife Catherine; grandchildren, Hillary and Ben Thompson, Sophie, Grace and Tristan Munchel, Lane, Paige, Celine, Danielle and Erik Schmidt; great-grandchildren Mia Torre, Carly and Penelope Thompson, Zadie Jackson, Daniel Gratz Jr. and Beau Gratz; Siblings, Diane Barker and husband Dave and Michael Leftwich and wife Nancy; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
