Charles F. Simon

Charles F. Simon, 82, of New Freedom, passed away on November 2, 2018. He was the husband of the late Loretta Simon. Charles was born in 1936 to Adam and Nettie (Jefferson) Simon in Baltimore City, MD. He was one of 12 living children. He spent many years working as a baker at Otterbein’s, Mars, and Simon’s. He married Loretta in 1977, and continued to find passion in cooking, family, fishing, and woodworking. Charles is survived by 3 children Elizabeth Fuhr, Donna Campbell, and Harry Kirby and his wife Barbara; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother George Simon and his wife Kathleen; and two sisters Marie Popp and Mildren Fike. In addition to his late wife Loretta Simon, Charles is preceded in death by 8 siblings, and a son-in-law Charles Fuhr. A time of viewing and remembrance will occur from 6-8 PM on Tuesday November 6, 2018 at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA. A funeral service will start at 10:30 am Wednesday November 7, 2018 at the funeral home with Pastor Jason Tourville officiating. Interment will follow at Parkwood Cemetery in Parkville, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charles’ memory can be sent to the Maryland Chapter of the Rosie the Riveter Association at 9316 Madison Ave., Laurel, MD 20723.
