Charles Odus Smith

Charles Odus Smith, Jr. of York, PA, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022, in his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Hilda (Lawrence) Smith for 65 years. He was born August 28th, 1939, in Harman, West Virginia to the late Charles O. Smith, Sr. and Flakie I. (Bennett) Smith. In addition to his beloved wife Hilda, Charles is survived by four children; Ricky Smith and his wife, Pam, Chris Smith and his wife, Debby, Charlene Smith and her husband, Brian, Sr. and David Smith and his wife, Jackie; seven grandchildren, Brian Smith Jr., Malina Colón, Rachel Bahn, Erin Demcher, Sam Smith, Sara Wagner, and Peyton Smith; and nine great-grandchildren, Dakota Martin, Brian Smith III, Victoria Jones, Cristiano Colón, Savannah Bahn, Liza Wagner, Analiese Colón, Jason Wagner, and Sage Smith. He is also survived by one brother, Carl Smith and one sister, Wanda Rawlings. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Opal, Ella Mae, Annabelle, and Dolores. Charles is a graduate of Harman West Virginia. He served in the Army for 8 years. He then got a job at Giant Food for 39 years and Walmart for 15 years. There will be a viewing from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. 2nd St., New Freedom, PA 17349.
