Cheryl F. Dumas, age 70, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024.
She was the beloved wife of Robert Dumas. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in September 2023.
Surviving in addition to her husband is her daughter, Kristen Schabdach, son-in law, Tony Schabdach, grandchildren Anthony Schabdach and Brooke Schabdach, and her brother, Edward Fortin. She was predeceased by her sister, Caryn, and brother, Tom. She is also survived by beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends, in addition to the many others who called her ‘Moms’.
Born in Pawtucket, RI, Cheryl was the daughter of the late George and Gertrude Fortin. She worked in early childhood education for over thirty years, in and around her travels as a soldier’s wife. Cheryl enjoyed reading, going on cruises, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and sitting by the water at Cape Cod.
Cheryl was a member of the Maryland Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Odenton Chapter 29, where she served two terms as Worthy Matron. She was also a Grand Officer in 2021-2022.
Cheryl was devout her whole life, and a member of the church in various states and countries due to her travels. Her most recent spiritual home was at St. John Episcopal Church in York, PA.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family kindly requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association in Cheryl’s honor.
