Chester Engle

Chester W. Engle, 95, of Freeland, MD passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022. Born in Baltimore City, MD, he was the son of the late LeRoy G. and Lillian V. (Walker) Engle. He was the loving husband to Arabelle Engle, who predeceased him in 2015. Chester was a member of the VFW Post 7012 in New Freedom. Before that, he was a member of the American Legion in both Hampstead, MD Post 200 and Parkton, MD Post 256. Chester enjoyed fishing, hunting, and painting. He also liked traveling and going on road trips with his late wife. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Chester is survived by his 2 daughters, Dot Cameron and her husband Larry, and Sue Openshaw and her husband Jeff; 4 grandchildren, Stevie, Melissa, Jamie, and Shawn; 6 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Morgan, Kearstin, Austin, Shyanne, and Eric; 1 great-great-grandchild, Ava; and 1 sister, Ruth Goodwin. He was preceded in death by 4 siblings. Public viewings will be held Wednesday, September 7th from 1-3 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. 2ndSt., New Freedom, PA 17349. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place Thursday, September 8th at 10 a.m. at Garrison Forest Veteran Cemetery in Owings Mills, MD.
