Dale R. Mccleary

Dale R. McCleary, 69, of New Park, PA passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 19, 2018. He was the husband of Susan A. (Lenox) McCleary to whom he was married 50 years. Born in New Park, he was a son of the late Ralph and Ethel (Althouse) McCleary. Dale graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Education and retired as a 7th grade science teacher with South Eastern School District. He enjoyed coaching varsity girls’ softball and basketball and coached the 1st York County girls’ softball team to win the district championship in 1990. Dale enjoyed playing softball, and all sports in general. He was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church in Gatchelville, PA where he was active as a Sunday school teacher, youth group leader and member of the finance department. Dale proudly served his country in the US Army in Vietnam where he received a bronze star, combat infantryman badge and numerous other awards and decorations. His name appears on the Court of Valor, for his service, at Prospect Hill Cemetery in York. He enjoyed farming as a hobby and spending time as a father and grandfather. In addition to his wife Susan, he is survived by two children, Brian D. McCleary and wife Amy of New Park, PA and Dawn M., wife of Michael Janssen of Quarryville, PA; six grandchildren, Joshua and Nicole McCleary, Kendal, Josie, Brady and Avery Janssen; three sisters, Glenda wife of Henry Sommer, Joyce, wife of Donald DiGiacinto, both of New Park, PA, and Janet Dolinger of Stewartstown, PA. Dale was preceded in death by a brother Dean M. McCleary. Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 11AM at Prospect United Methodist Church, 8 Orchard Rd. New Park, PA 17352 (Gatchelville) with Pastor Dennis McCleary and Rev. Robert Pickering officiating. Military honors will be rendered immediately following the service at the church. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held two hours prior from 9AM until 11AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Prospect U.M. Cemetery Association, 8 Orchard Rd., New Park, PA 17352 in honor of Dale R. McCleary and/or South Eastern School District, 377 Main St. Fawn Grove, PA 17321, c/o “Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Memorial” in honor of Dale R. McCleary.
