Daniel Joseph Eckard of Shrewsbury, 66, died on Tuesday, April 24, 2018.Born May 16, 1951, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Joseph and Caroline (Crabbs) Eckard. He was the husband of Jessica Mary Buck of Shrewsbury. He graduated from Westminster High School, Class of 1969.He was employed with several Maryland trucking firms, where he was a mechanic and later had his CDL to drive trucks, retiring after 30 + years of service. Over the years, he attended numerous specialty schools for mechanic training.He was an expert at woodworking and enjoyed building model cars with friends, bird watching, and reading about the many species of birds. Daniel was an excellent chef and prepared all the holiday meals. Daniel and Jessica were married May 21, 2005 and celebrated 13 wonderful years together. They shared a love for Bluegrass music and enjoyed Clog Dancing at shows, where he always knew all the musicians. They also saved 7 dogs through animal rescue shelters. In addition to his wife, Daniel is survived by 3 children, Eric Eckard and his fiancé Abby Otradovec, Jason Eckard and his wife Christy, and Angie Eckard; 6 step children, Leslie Lopez and her husband Leonard,Alan Trowbridge and his wife Cila, Dianne Smith and her husband Gerald, Jennifer Cuddington and her husband Turk, Molly Buck; 2 siblings, Edward Eckard and his wife Bonnie and Elizabeth Bowersox and her husband John; survived by sisters-in-law Brenda and Donna Eckard; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by David and Brian Eckard. There will be a viewing on Monday, April 30, 2018from 5:00 - 7:00pm, with a service to follow at 7:00 pm at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St. New Freedom, PA. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Daniel’s memory to: Animal Rescue; P.O. Box 35 Maryland Line, MD 21105.
