Darlas Martha Sitler

Darlas Martha (Canouse) Sitler, 81, of Shrewsbury, PA,  departed this life on January 17, 2023.  She was with her family when she finished the final chapter of her life. Born in Berwick, PA on October 27, 1941 she was the daughter of the late Fred and Agnes (Rinert) Canouse.

She was a graduate of Berwick High School in 1959.  She enjoyed a career of working at Smith Village, retiring after 14 years of service. In the summer of 1959, she met the love of her life, Ronald Robert Sitler.  They were married at the Stone Evangelical United Brethren Church on August 6, 1960.  They enjoyed a loving marriage for 60 years.  They raised three children, Gary Sitler, Eric Sitler and Shelly Sitler-Metallo. After her retirement from Smith Village, Darlas enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.  She was an extraordinary baker.  She loved to take care of those she loved but also those in need.  She was the kindest soul and was loved by anyone who knew her.  Her presence in our lives will be sorely missed.

Darlas was preceded in death by her loving husband Ronald Sitler, her parents, brothers Ronald, David, Fred and Harvey Canouse and her sister, Doris Baucher. She is survived by her children, Gary Sitler and wife Kathy, of York Haven, Eric Sitler of Berwick, Shelly Sitler-Metallo and husband David, of Seattle, Washington; six grandchildren: Logan Sitler, Meaghan Sitler, Nicole (Sitler) Tome and her husband, Dakota, Elias Metallo, Sawyer Metallo, Phinney Metallo; and four great-grandchildren: Leyla Sitler, Lincoln Tome, Lainey Tome, and Lucas Sitler; as well as her sister, Margaret McAllister, of Millville.

A viewing will be held on Monday, January 23 ^rd , from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Shrewsbury Assembly of God, 234 N. Main St., Shrewsbury, PA 17361. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 24 ^th ,  at Shrewsbury Assembly of God. Darlas will be laid to rest next to her loving husband in a private interment in Berwick, PA.
