David Garland

March 5, 1947 — November 2, 2018

David Garland, 71, of Stewartstown, passed away on November 2, 2018. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. After serving in the Army stationed in Tokyo where he met his wife Reiko, he returned to Pennsylvania. He earned his MBA from York College, and spent 30+ years working in telecommunications, where he had the pleasure of meeting what became lifelong friends. He enjoyed time with his family, traveling with Reiko, and playing just about anything with his grandson Trevor. Even at home, he wasn’t one to sit still, always tinkering in the garage, or tending to the vegetable and flower gardens. He loved reading, writing, and seemingly always had a book nearby. Dave was generous and giving. He believed in serving the community, was quick to volunteer and offer his time. He was never too busy to drive his daughter and all her childhood friends to concerts or summer camps. Dave had a love of the outdoors, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing, as well as playing pool with his friends. He cherished time spent with extended family at the farm where he grew up. In his final days, he was cared for by his loving wife, Reiko, who devoted herself to his care, and whose constant presence gave him great comfort. His laid back and gentle spirit will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife Reiko, daughter Mary and her husband Jim, and grandson Trevor who was the joy of his life. He is survived by his brother Jerry, and preceded in death by his mother Marjorie, father John, and sister Gladys. No public services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to organizations he supported throughout his life: Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org (Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517); USO www.uso.org (USO Department WS, PO Box 96860 Washington, DC 20090-6860).
