David Worth Shrodes, 72, passed away on January 6, 2025. He was born on March 29, 1952, in York, Pennsylvania, to the late Charles W. and Jean (McElwain) Shrodes.

A lifelong resident of Norrisville, Maryland, David graduated from North Harford High School in 1970. He attended the Reisch American School of Auctioneering and earned a Bachelors from Towson State University. David was a member of Centre Presbyterian Church in New Park, Pennsylvania, where he took great pride in his family’s contribution to its construction in the early 1800s.

David was a dedicated public servant, holding numerous roles in local and state government, including the Harford County Planning Advisory Board, the Regional Planning Council of Maryland, and the Harford County Public Schools Ethics Board. In 1994 he was appointed to the Harford County Liquor Control Board and served as chairman from 1995 to 2003, one of the longest consecutive serving chairs in the Board’s history. He was also Director of the Maryland Association of Alcoholic Beverage License Administrators.

As a celebrated auctioneer, David operated the family business established in 1949 by his father. He was a Maryland State Certified Residential Appraiser, recognized as an expert in antiques, particularly sterling silver and early Chinese export porcelain. He served as President of the Harford County Appraisers Society and Treasurer of the Maryland Association of Appraisers during the same period. David also shared his passion for antiques and auctioneering with students as an instructor at Harford Community College. He enjoyed donating his auctioneering and appraisal expertise to help many non-profit organizations raise funds. In his pastime, he enjoyed attending antique shows and auctions.

David was a licensed real estate broker in Maryland and Pennsylvania for over 40 years, serving a term as President of the Harford County Board of Realtors from 1983 to 1984 and holding leadership roles with the Maryland Association of Realtors. He was named Harford County Realtor of the Year in 1984.

An active Mason, David was a member of Tuscan Lodge No. 202 A.F. & A.M., held a 32nd degree in both the York and Scottish Rites, and was a Noble of the Mystic Shrine, Boumi Temple. David also served on the Board of Directors of the Harford County Chamber of Commerce from 1984 to 1991 and as board member of the Mason-Dixon Business Association from 1994 to 1996.

Above all, David was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and fiancé.  He is lovingly remembered by his nephew Chad Shrodes, his wife Amber, and their daughter Madelyn; his nephew Tim Shrodes, his wife Christina, and their children Patrick, Alayna, and Charlie; and his fiancée Jewel Myers.  He is survived by his two sisters, Dorothy S. Hiser and Doris S. Bunner, nephews, Chris Hiser and Kevin Bunner. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, C. Richard Shrodes, nephew, Devin Bunner, and niece, Shelley Hiser Biscotti.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate David’s life at a viewing on Saturday, January 18th, at 10 a.m. at Centre Presbyterian Church, 83 New Park Rd., New Park, PA 17352. A funeral service will follow at noon, with interment in the church cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., Stewartstown, PA.
