David Paige Thompson

David Paige Thompson, 74, of New Freedom peacefully entered Heaven on Wednesday, February 14, 2018. He was the loving husband of Lola (Conley) Thompson, and they shared 55 years of marriage. Born in Glen Rock, he was the son of the late Ellsworth Hilary and Mildred Arlene (Smith) Thompson. David was a hard worker and a good provider; a master gardener, he loved his gardening and was known as the Tomato Man on Plank Road for the last 15 years. He was a selfless man that cared for others before himself. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and Peepaw and was a “father figure of his heart” to Alex Vargas, and his wife Sheila, and Nicole Heath, and her husband Shawn. David was a millwright carpenter and enjoyed metal detecting. He was an honorary member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 214. Surviving in addition to his wife are two children, David Thompson, and his wife Kristen of Green Bay, WI, and Sonya, wife of John Walker of York; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters Barbara, wife of Leroy Gamble and Vicki, wife of Kermit Hershey and one brother Alan Thompson. David was preceded in death by 6 brothers James Thompson, William Thompson, C. Richard Thompson, Edward Thompson, Auburn “Abe” Thompson and C. Michael Thompson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 2PM at Cross Roads United Methodist Church, 6881 Church Road, Cross Roads, PA 17322 with Rev. Larry Parlett officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior from 1-2PM at the church. Interment will be private and at the convenience of his family. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in David’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403.
