Donald James Courtney

Donald J. Courtney passed away on June 11, 2021. He was a resident of Normandie Ridge in York, PA.Donald was born in Baltimore, MD to the late James Courtney and Althea (Abbott) Courtney.His father James returned to the United States Marine Corp. in 1941 and Donald grew up in Freeland MD, Havelock, NC, and Norfolk, VA. Don graduated from Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge, VA and entered the United States Air Force in 1959, where he was stationed in France and Kansas.Following his time in the USAF, Don entered the Coast Guard and then the Coast Guard Reserve, from which he retired after 20 years of service. He was also a Federal retiree. Don loved trains, lighthouses and 50's culture. Don is survived by his children, Jennifer and Donald Courtney; 2 grandchildren, Cassie and Chris; and 3 great grandchildren, all of Topeka, KS; his sister, Donna Courtney of Summerville SC; and cousin, Bud Waller & family, of Freeland MD; and former wife and dear friend, Judith Courtney, of Topeka, KS. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 5th from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc. 24 N. Second St. New Freedom, PA 17349. Interment will immediately follow at Mt. Zion United Methodist Cemetery, 20901 Mt. Zion Rd. Freeland, MD 21053.
