Donald J. Fritz

Donald Joseph Fritz, 88, passed from this life peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2023 with his family at this side. He was the loving husband of the late Dorothy ‘Carol’ (Shilling) Fritz who passed in December 2019. Born in Kittanning, PA, he was the son of the late Howard Joseph and Mary Alberta (Bowser) Fritz. Don was a proud Army veteran who served in intelligence in Formosa (Taiwan). Afterwards, he was an electrical engineer and worked in the telecom industry at Martin Marietta, Western Electric, and AT&T for over 37 years before retiring.

Don loved the outdoors including hunting, fishing, and camping. He built a family cabin on the top of Bunn’s Mountain by Raystown Lake, PA where he spent weekends with family. He played golf and when he couldn't play, he watched golf on TV. He loved football, especially the Steelers, waving his terrible towel in his Roethlisberger jersey.  His love of Hershey miniatures and chocolate chip cookies always satisfied his sweet tooth.  Don was always willing to lend a helping hand and a true family man, especially loved being a Grandpap to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Don is survived by 4 children, Durenda Juergensen and husband, Stephen, Derrick Fritz and wife Karen, Douglas Fritz and wife Mary Ann, and David Fritz and wife Noelle; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother, Larry Fritz and a sister-in-law, Frances Fritz. Donald was preceded in death by a son, Donald Fritz and a brother, Howard Fritz.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a viewing from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 27 at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. 2 ^nd Street, New Freedom, PA 17349. There will be a funeral service on Friday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest next to his dear wife and son, Donald in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Cemetery following the service.
