Donald H. Herbert Jr., 71, passed unexpectedly from this life on Thursday, February 9, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Palmer) Herbert and they celebrated 52 years of marriage together. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Donald H. Herbert Sr. and Loretta (Bailey) Herbert Menten. Donald was a master electrician and worked many years in the construction industry.
Donald enjoyed listening to music and playing the guitar; he enjoyed watching old TV shows & crime movies, and he loved to be outside. Donald raised Rhodesian Red chickens and even became known as “the chicken man of Ebaugh Road”. He was a simple man who needn’t more than just to be with his family in order to be happy. Donald found joy in the little things in life such as a hot cup of coffee, a tuna sandwich from Subway, waving at cars passing by, and his favorite tapioca pudding. You never saw him light up as much as when he was talking to his grandchildren and hearing of their accomplishments, and most importantly, spending as much time as he could with his beloved wife, Pat.
Donald loved anything with an engine that could go fast especially historic cars and motorcycles. In earlier years, Donald and Patricia along with their first daughter, Amy, traveled around the country as crew members of Trimper’s Carnival where Donald managed the "Fun House". While Donald did not hold membership at a church, he always recited prayers and read the bible every day thanking God for all that he felt grateful for.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife are three children, Amy Godwin of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jill Gaul (Kris Pigarut) of York and Megan Harris and spouse, Donta, of Stewartstown; five grandchildren, Ty Godwin, Kyle Godwin, Jack Gaul, Molly Godwin, and Dylan Harris; and a sister, Donna Watts of Catonsville, Maryland.
Services and interment are private and at the convenience of the family. Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. 2 nd Street, New Freedom, PA 17349 is assisting the family with the arrangements.
