Donald H. Yost

Donald Hedrick Yost passed away at York Hospital on Friday, May 26, 2023. He was the husband of the late Marjorie Anderson Yost; they shared 57 years of marriage. Born in Stewartstown on December 13, 1934, Donald was the son of the late J. Vernon Yost and Emma Jane (Hedrick) Yost. He was the class president of the Stewartstown High School class of 1952. He graduated from Dickinson College in 1956 and Dickinson School of Law in 1959.

Donald practiced law in York County from 1959 to 2002, initially with Wogan, Elsesser, and Yost and he was a founding partner of Blakey, Yost, Bupp & Rausch. Donald served as editor of York Legal Record from 1973-1979, a Statewide Uniform Municipal Law Committee member from 1980-1985, and Director of the York County Bar Association from 1992-1995. He specialized in municipal law and was the solicitor for Springettsbury Township from 1973-2001. Throughout his law career, he represented municipalities and authorities in York County and was a member of the York County and the Pennsylvania Bar Associations.

Donald was active in his hometown of Stewartstown. He was a member and past president of the Stewartstown Lions Club, a member and past Board member of the Stewartstown Historical Society, and a member and former Board member of the Mason Dixon Public Library.

Donald enjoyed reading, especially about civil war history, gardening and landscaping, woodworking, hiking, hunting with his brother, and spending time outdoors with his family.

Donald is survived by two daughters, Ann E. Yost and her husband Gerald W. Lucas of Stewartstown and Sarah Y. Hedin and her husband Paul E. Hedin, Jr of Lewisbury; and five grandchildren, Christopher Y. Hedin, Rebecca Y. Hedin, Paul E. Hedin, III, Emma Y. Lucas, and Nora Y. Lucas. In Donald's memory contributions may be made to York County Rail Trail Authority.

A visitation for family and friends will begin at 11:00 am on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Stewartstown United Methodist Church, 26 S. Main Street, Stewartstown. Memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm.
