Doris Elaine (Walker) Winemiller

Doris Elaine (Walker) Winemiller of Shrewsbury, 92, passed away on June 24, 2023. She was the wife of the late Richard “Dick” Eugene Winemiller with whom she shared 72 years of marriage.Born in New Freedom to the late Earl Raymond and Helen Elizabeth (Ensor) Walker.

Doris graduated from Codorus Township High School, Class of 1948. She worked at the Sewing Factory in Shrewsbury on Highland Drive and at the New Way Dry Cleaners in Shrewsbury on W. Forrest Ave. She was a housewife, mother and always there for her family. She enjoyed making homemade ice cream every other week and as kids, her children loved licking the paddles from the fresh ice cream. She loved to cook and canned fresh produce from the family garden. She was a seamstress, making many alterations and new clothing. People were always stopping by the house for her to take measurements.

She was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, where she was involved with event planning, fundraising, church bazaars, and organizing, buying, and preparing food for events. She also was a member of Shrewsbury Fireman Ladies Auxiliary. Doris is survived by four of her five children, Nancy Glatfelter and her husband Reuben, Terry Winemiller and his wife Carol, Robert Winemiller and his wife Lorissa, and Lisa Wentz and her husband William; 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and her three siblings, Norman Walker and his wife Hazel, Charlotte Parrish and her husband Don, and Darlene Spies Flemmens and her husband Dwayne. Doris is preceded in death by her daughter Judy Wherley and her husband Henry.

There will be a public viewing on Saturday, July 1, 2023 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Steltz Reformed Church, 5890 Steltz Road, Glen Rock, PA 17327. A Funeral Service will be on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Joseph Giesey Memorial Cemetery.
