Dorothy H. (Rykaczewski) Worhach, 90, of Stewartstown, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones, after a short, courageous battle with a sudden illness. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 38 years, Russell Worhach, of Stewartstown. She was born June 24, 1931 in Philadelphia to the late Stephen and Helen Mary (Tyska) Rykaczewski. Her family will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Dorothy attended Frankfort high school in Philadelphia and worked as a legal secretary in Philadelphia, Pa., Baltimore, Md. and Annapolis, Md. for many, many years. She was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. Dorothy was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. Her passions included keeping up with the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, a voracious life-long love of books and reading, sharing her impeccable sewing and knitting skills with her granddaughters, playing her luck on the slots at casinos around the country, cooking, canning, jewelry collecting, angel collecting and a love for all things glittery. Traveling with her husband and skiing were highlights in her life. Her unique sense of humor will keep her family and friends, laughing (and happily crying) for many years to come. She will truly be missed. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Russell; four children, Deborah Anne (Nitchie) Leroy, husband Paul, of White Hall, Md., John J. Nitchie of Stewartstown, Pa., Stephen Nitchie, wife Sue (Warner), of Flower Mound, Tx., and George F. Nitchie, wife Linda (Batzer) of Havre DeGrace Md.; two step children, Jeanne (Worhach) Zito, husband Darrell of Annapolis, Md., and Russell G. Worhach of York, Pa.;8 grandchildren, Brant Miller, wife Sharon (Krouse), PJ Leroy, Christopher Leroy, wife Lisa (Ekstrom), Haley, Carley, Macey, Logan and Savannah Nitchie; 3 great grandchildren, Hank and Luke Miller and Landon Leroy; 3 step grandchildren, Kayla, Bryce and Nathan Zito; sister, Irene. Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Sonia Farrell; father, Stephen; mother, Helen and step father, George Bahlay. A public visitation will be on Friday, June 24, 2022 from 5:00PM – 8:00PM at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown, PA 17363.A Memorial Mass will be on Saturday, June 25, 2022beginning at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church; 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA 17349. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at a later date.
