Dorothy L. Sheffer (Grimm)

Dorothy L. (Grimm) Sheffer, 85, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, September 15, 2017. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward A. Sheffer, whom she was married to for 34 years and also her sister, Edith Tweed of St. Augustine, FL. Dorothy was born in Baltimore, MD on March 5, 1932, the oldest daughter of Felix W. and Jessie B. (Tracey) Grimm. After graduating from Sparks High School, Sparks, MD in 1949 and Baltimore Business College in 1950, she started her secretarial career at the former Hungerford Packing Co. in Hungerford, PA from 1952 to 1965 and resumed her career in 1979 with the Shrewsbury Lutheran Home where she retired in 1992. Dottie and Eddie were married in 1951 in Parkton, MD. They enjoyed traveling, camping, going to the beach and visiting with family and friends. During her many years of being a homemaker, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, canning and caring for her family and home. Dorothy was a long-time member of Christ Lutheran Church, Shrewsbury, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid. She also volunteered her time with the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved son, Scott E. Sheffer and wife, Joann; granddaughter, Julia Rose, all of Stewartstown; and one brother, Robert L. Grimm of Mt. Wolf. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family sends a special thank you to Hospice and Community Care for their care and support during Dorothy's final days. Public viewing will be from 11 a.m. until a funeral service begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 22, at Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second Street, New Freedom. Interment will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are recommended to the Salvation Army for Hurricane Harvey and Irma relief at www.salvationarmyusa.org.
