Dr. Glenn L. Stevens of Shrewsbury, PA, passed away on December 29, 2024 at Cross Keys Retirement Village, New Oxford, PA.

Dr. Stevens is survived by his wife of 57 years Bonnie S. Stevens, and their daughter Leslie S. Sheetz and her husband Jason M. Sheetz of Delta, PA.  The Stevens lived in State College, PA prior to moving to Shrewsbury, PA in 1971.  They relocated to Kansas City, MO in 1986, and returned to Shrewsbury in 1987, where they continued to reside until moving to Cross Keys Retirement Village, New Oxford, PA, in 2018.

Stevens was born on June 25, 1945, in Lewisburg, PA, a son of Dr. Glenn Z. Stevens and Sara R. Stevens, formerly of State College, PA.

Dr. Stevens graduated from State College Area High School in 1963.  He completed his undergraduate work at Lycoming College, Williamsport, PA, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1968.  In 1977, Stevens earned his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Loyola University in Maryland, Baltimore, MD, and in 1980 he earned the Masters of Finance (MFin) degree, also from Loyola University.  In 1995, Stevens earned his Ph.D. in public administration and public finance from The Pennsylvania State University.  He was honored with membership in Omicron Delta Epsilon, national honor society in economics, and Pi Alpha Alpha, national honor society in public affairs and administration.

Dr. Stevens spent a large part of his working career as an executive with the Farm Credit Bank of Baltimore, where he served as senior vice president and chief financial officer, senior vice president of operations, and executive vice president and chief operating officer.  He retired from the bank in 1994, when it merged with AgFirst Farm Credit Bank.  During 1986-1987, Stevens worked for the Farm Credit System Capital Corporation in Kansas City, MO, where he served as senior vice president and later as president and chief executive officer.

In 1995, Stevens joined the faculty of Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, PA, where he served as Associate Professor of Finance until his retirement in 2007.  Professor Stevens was honored as Emeritus Associate Professor of Finance upon his retirement.  While at Franklin & Marshall College, his teaching responsibilities included corporate finance, securities analysis and investment management.  He is the author of several journal articles and books in his field including co-authorship of a three-book series about financial statement analysis and financial forecasting.  Professor Stevens was instrumental in developing the College’s student-managed investment fund and worked hard to bring technology to the classroom.  Professor Stevens considered mentoring students as his greatest professional accomplishment, and was honored to be selected by the College’s 2006 graduating class as the most influential professor in the social sciences.  Following his retirement from Franklin & Marshall College, Professor Stevens served as a finance professor for the University of Maryland University College, and Strayer University, where he continued to teach online undergraduate and graduate-level courses in finance through December 2017.

Dr. Stevens was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, York, PA, prior to joining the Cross Keys Village Church of the Brethren.  He was also a member of Shrewsbury Masonic Lodge No. 423 F&AM where he served as Worshipful Master in 1983 and Secretary in 2013-2014, and was also a member of Patmos Masonic Lodge No. 348 F&AM in Hanover, PA.  He was also a member of the Harrisburg Consistory and the Zembo Shrine Temple, both in Harrisburg, PA.  Dr. Stevens was also a member of the Lycoming College chapter of Kappa Delta Rho fraternity.  He was also a veteran of service with the U. S. Army.

Dr. Stevens and his family owned quarter horses for many years and enjoyed helping to care for and show his horses.  He also spent a lot of time with his English springer spaniel dogs who were his close companions for many years.  Stevens also enjoyed his collection of John Deere equipment and antique tractors and restoring several tractors over the years.  He was also an amateur radio operator with the KA3MJY call sign.

A visitation is scheduled for 1PM to 2PM on Friday, January 3rd at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc. 19 South Main Street, Stewartstown, PA 17363.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 3rd at 2PM.

A private burial service will be held immediately following the funeral in Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery, Shrewsbury, PA.

In lieu of flowers, it was Glenn’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to The Brethren Home Foundation Good Samaritan Fund 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350 or the Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue P.O. Box 807, Goochland, VA 23603.
