On Saturday, December 8, 2018, Edmund D. Markey, Jr., 91, passed away at Wellspan York Hospital.He was the husband of Hazel L. (Sheffer) Markey with whom he would have celebrated their 65th anniversary together this year on December 31st.Edmund was born on November 12, 1927 in York to the late Edmund D. and Mary Jane (Dittenhafer) Markey.He had worked for Leader’s Farm, Country Meadows Nursing Home and was a foreman for Donald Markey’s Construction.He was a life member of Red Lion Grange #1781.In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, farming and raising sheep.Edmund is survived by his wife; one brother, Dale Markey; 16 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.Preceding him in death are his parents and four siblings, Preston, Phillip, David and Morgan Markey. He had a special bond with his brother and sister-in-lawJohn and Brenda Coulter; niece Virginia and her husband Todd Druck and sons Nathan Coulter, Brandon and Tyler Druck; and niece Lisa and her husband Christopher Baile and daughters Abigail and Olivia Herbert. Public viewing will be on Friday, December 14 from 9:30am until a funeral service begins at 11:30am at Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom.Interment will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York.Rev.
