Edward Reed Pletzer

On Saturday, March 16, 2019, Edward R. Pletzer, 84, passed away at Wellspan York Hospital.He was born on January 24, 1935 in Baltimore to the late Reed Edward and Mildred (Gorsuch) Pletzer.Ed attended Edison Vo Tech, then served in the 61st Military Police Company in Europe during the Korean War.He was an electrician at Western Electric for 27 years, and his strong work ethic was passed down to his children.Ed was an avid woodworker who enjoyed making furniture for his family.He enjoyed mowing the grass and riding his lawnmower.Almost every Wednesday he would meet with a breakfast group of friends from Hampden, MD.Ed was a quiet man who could tell a good joke.He was also an animal lover who had numerous rescue dogs and cats.Ed really loved the family’s annual vacation to the beach or camping in his trailer. He was married to his junior high school sweetheart, Phyllis (Kelbaugh) Pletzer for 63 years.Ed was the beloved father of Dawn Moorefield and husband James, Sandra Batterden and husband Stephen and Randy Pletzer; caring grandfather of Megan, Marisa and Reed Moorefield, Grace and Christopher Batterden and Meranda Pletzer.He was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Wagner. Public visitation will be from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm on Tuesday, March 19 at Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 20 at 1pm.Interment will follow in New Freedom Cemetery.Rev. Melissa A.
