Randy Leon Rittenhouse and Elizabeth Denise Rittenhouse were tragically lost in an automobile accident on April 10th, 2025, in Toms River, New Jersey. They were happily married for 23 years. Randy and Elizabeth had six children, 14 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, with one more great-grandchild on the way.
Randy Rittenhouse was born in York, Pennsylvania, to Harold “Jake” Rittenhouse and Mabel (Runkle) Rittenhouse and grew up in Felton, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Kennard-Dale High School class of 1975. Randy was a devoted employee of Apria Healthcare, where he retired as the Logistics Supervisor of the Lakewood, New Jersey branch in 2023 after 35 years. He enjoyed volunteering as a Fire Policeman for both the Red Lion and Felton Fire Departments. Randy’s true passion was hospitality. “Mister R” could be spotted at various fairs and events throughout the York County Area with “G and R BBQ” and “Mister R’s Concessions”- you did not want to miss Mister R’s Waffles & Ice cream. As a man who understood the importance of loving and serving others, Randy will be remembered for his inviting personality and how he always seemed to know someone anywhere he went.
Randy is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Lapham, his son, Andrew Rittenhouse and daughter-in-law Cristi Rittenhouse, his son Michael Rittenhouse, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, his beloved mother, Mabel (Runkle) Rittenhouse, and his brother, Gary Rittenhouse. Randy was predeceased in death by his father Harold “Jake” Rittenhouse.
Elizabeth Denise Rittenhouse, known to many as “Betsy,” was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Sheldon and Gloria (Bailey) Stahle and grew up in Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania. She attended Kennard Dale High School and graduated from the York County Area Vocational-Technical School earning a diploma in the Practical Nursing Program in 1989. Betsy started her nursing career as an LPN at Rest Haven Nursing Home in York, Pennsylvania, where she worked for 20 years and developed a passion for providing medical care to the elderly. She continued this passion in Toms River, New Jersey for 10 years as a home care provider for the elderly. Betsy’s proudest work accomplishments include building relationships with her patients and their families which allowed her to help them through difficult times in life, as well as working towards becoming a Registered Nurse. She retired in 2018.
Betsy was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with her children, stepchildren, and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Randy spent their time in retirement traveling around the country, attending concerts, dinner shows, flea markets, and exploring fun places like Mayberry, the Stratford Inn, and the Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home. She enjoyed dogs, crafting, antiquing, lighthouses, and decorating for any and every holiday.
Betsy is survived by her daughter, Jessica Ness and son-in-law Daniel Ness, her son, Jeffery Slemp and daughter-in-law Theresa Slemp, her daughter Rachael Deskin and son-in-law Patrick Hinson, seven grandchildren, with one great-grandchild on the way. She is also survived by her four beloved siblings, Sheldon “Rick” Stahle, Timothy Stahle, Kathy Taylor, and Joyce McGinley. Betsy was predeceased in death by her parents Sheldon Stahle and Gloria (Bailey) Stahle.
The family will receive visitors beginning at 12:30pm on Saturday, April 26th at Grace Church Shrewsbury, 473 Plank Road, New Freedom, Pennsylvania 17349, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00pm, with Pastor John C. Dorr, Jr. officiating. Interment will be private. Flowers may be sent to Grace Church Shrewsbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the York County SPCA.
