Ellen Anderson Harvey, 94, of Delta, PA, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born February 24, 1930, in Delta to the late Stewart W. and Emma E. (Johnson) Anderson. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Howard J. Harvey, whom she was married to for 41 years.
Ellen graduated from Lower Chanceford High School in 1948 then earned a degree in Secretarial Sciences from Elizabethtown College in 1950. She started working as a bank teller at Delta Bank, then as a secretary with Bechtel Corporation. Ellen later worked for General Electric, Nat Harrison Construction, and eventually retired from Maryland Lava Company.
In her retirement years, she enjoyed friendships made through The Red Hats. Even after it folded, the ladies continued to go out to enjoy a show or a nice lunch.
Always the hard worker, she volunteered at Mt Nebo church with their apple butter and chicken corn soup prep. At home, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens and baking.
Ellen was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Sinclair, Dorothy Hesser, and Hazel Warner. Also her daughter-in-law, Deborah (Rowe) Harvey. Surviving is her sister, Jessie Stephenson of Mont Alto; children Roxane Tompkins (Daryl) of Fawn Grove and John Harvey (Verna) of Bel Air; grandchildren Mark Tompkins (Jennifer), Megan Witman (Joshua) and Justin Harvey, four great grand daughters, Maura and Shannon (Tompkins) and Kailyn and Brooke (Witman), as well as her beloved dog, Rascal.
Ellen was a long time member of Pine Grove Presbyterian Church in Sunnyburn.
A graveside service will be held at Slate Ridge Cemetery in Delta, PA on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kristine Hileman and Rev. James Shuler officiating. Those attending may meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.
