Elwood "Woody" Eugene Walker

Elwood “Woody”  Eugene Walker, 92, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025 with his family by his side. Born in New Freedom, he was a son to the late Walter and Mildred (Heindel) Walker, and was raised from a young age by his grandparents Eranius and Edna Heindel. He was the loving husband to Linna (Day) Walker. The couple celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on January 20th.

Woody graduated from Susquehannock High School. He served as a tank mechanic in the Army during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Steltz Reformed Church in Glen Rock. Woody was a true outdoorsman, who instilled a love of nature in those close to him. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Cameron County, hunting, fishing, and exploring the great outdoors. Woody also enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, and traveling. He spent countless hours on woodworking projects and tinkering in his workshop. He worked for R.H. Mowery as a plumber and Black & Decker as a sheet metal worker with an early retirement. Woody opened and operated a Taxidermy shop for over 7 years.

He is remembered by his wife, Linna; daughter, Tamela Bender and her husband Edward; a grandchild, Alyssa Bender; siblings, Janice Kaltreder, Karen Harris, Linda Bubb, Cindy Seitz, and Larry Walker. He was preceded in death by his son, Duane Walker and siblings, Gloria Walker and Marlin Walker.

All are invited to a viewing at Bethlehem Steltz Reformed Church, 5890 Steltz Rd, Glen Rock, PA 17327, Monday, March 3, 2025 from 9:30am – 11:30 am. The funeral service will start at 11:30 am, officiated by Rev. John C. Dorr, Jr. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Woody’s memory to Bethlehem Steltz Church. Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA 17349 is assisting the family with the arrangements.
