Eric Michael Sommer, 29, of Red Lion passed away Friday, November 8, 2019. Eric was born August 25, 1990 in Baltimore, MD. He was the son of Michael E. Sommer of Stewartstown and Stacey (Kashner) Sommer of Windsor. Eric was a graduate of Kennard-Dale High School and was employed by Kinsley Construction as a heavy equipment operator. He had previously been employed with Crouse Construction. He loved motorcycles, paint ball and animals, and enjoyed traveling. Eric lived life to the fullest and his smile was contagious. He was a hard worker and had a heart of gold and was willing to help others in need before himself. Inquisitive by nature, he learned by doing… like when he decided to take the refrigerator apart when he was a little boy to see how it worked, or when he and his cousin Meagan were curious as to how a beetle trap worked! When others saw strangers, Eric simply saw someone he hadn’t met yet. He would talk to anyone, was trusting of others and would help or do for others simply because he believed it was the right thing to do. When he would visit his grandparents, it was always “Hi Grammy and Pop! Guess what I did!” accompanied by a big hug. He would then tell of his latest adventure with a sparkle in his eye and enthusiasm in his voice. Eric was never embarrassed to tell his mom and dad that he loved them and was grateful to have them as his parents. His family will always love and remember Eric as a loving son, protective big brother, precious grandson, and a wonderful nephew and cousin. Until we see you again in Heaven, we will remember your beautiful smile, recall your wonderful laugh and wrap ourselves in the warmth of our memories of you and shed yet more tears of love. In echoing the words his dad always told Eric before they would say goodbye, “We love you Bud!” In addition to his parents, Eric is survived by his sisters, Victoria “Tori”, wife of Jared Smith of Red Lion and Sierra Sommer of Windsor; paternal grandparents, Gilbert and Anna Sommer of Delta; stepfather, Steven Lightner of Stewartstown; girlfriend, Leah Andrewlavage of Red Lion; and loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by the hundreds of lives he touched in his short 29 years on Earth. Funeral services celebrating Eric’s life will be held Saturday, November 16 at 7 p.m. from Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 19 South Main Street, Stewartstown. Interment will be private. A viewing will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of his service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mountain Manor Rehab, 9701 Keysville Road, Emmitsburg, MD 21727.
