On Monday, September 17, 2018, Eugene S. “Gene” Stum, 66, passed away at home with his family by his side.He was the loving husband of Linda Kay (Kline) Stum. Gene was born on October 2, 1951 in Lancaster, PA to Samuel and Mae (Wise) Stum.He was very active within the Servants Organization, where he assisted in rehabilitation of homes for those in need.Additionally, he enjoyed traveling to Guatemala and Haiti, for mission work with various organizations.Gene also loved doing the Lord’s work at Grace Church in Shrewsbury, where he led men’s groups and was a member of the church council for many years.He was a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors, the Maryland Society of Surveyors and the Sinnemahoning Sportsman’s Club.He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, hiking and nature itself. Surviving him are his wife; parents; children, Jeremy and wife Jennifer Stum and Amy and husband Andrew Deffendall; grandchildren, Hannah and Laura Stum and Olivia and Sofia Deffendall; he is also survived by two sisters, Brenda and Anita Stum. A memorial gathering will be on Saturday, September 22, from 10am until a memorial service begins at 11am at Grace United Methodist Church, 473 Plank Road, New Freedom, PA 17349.Interment is private.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are recommended to Grace United Methodist Church at the address above.
