Fern J. Boyer

Fern J. Boyer, 92, of Jacobus, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023. Born in Railroad, PA, she was the daughter of the late Richard H. Masenheimer and Helen R. (Warner). She was the loving wife to Russell J. Boyer, who passed in 1993.

Fern was a world traveler, including Europe and across the United States. She loved to collect bunnies and even became known as “Grandma Bunny” to her many beloved grandchildren. She loved fall leaves and springtime, especially the flowers and gardening. She also worked at Radebaugh Florist & Greenhouse for 30 years. Since she married Russell, Fern was a member of the New Freedom Church of the Brethren. Fern spent much of her time volunteering at The Lutheran Home In Shrewsbury, even earning a certificate for the thousands of hours of volunteering. She had the biggest collection of corny jokes and loved telling jokes to the nursing home residents.

Fern is survived by 7 children, Diana Snader, Robert “Bob” Boyer (Gloria), David “Dave” Boyer, Kathy Warner (Bill), Linda Miller (Mark), Glenda Cummings (Denny), and Laura Olewiler (Ray); 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and her brother Toby Masenheimer. She is also greatly loved by many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son Johnny Boyer, her brother Harold Masenheimer, along with her husband and parents.

A public viewing will be held from 5-7pm Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc. at 24 N. 2 ^nd St., New Freedom, PA 17349. A public funeral service will be held Friday, May 5 beginning at 11am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Bowser’s Cemetery in New Freedom.
