Francis X. "Frank" Hofmann, 88, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Harriet L. (Lau) Hofmann.Viewings will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 16, with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Sylvan P. Capitani, and from 12 to 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, from the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. The service will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary with the Rev. Burdette Lahr officiating. Burial will be in New Freedom Cemetery with full military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.Born September 12, 1927, in Baltimore, Md., Frank was the son of the late George and Evelyn (Pahr) Hofmann, Sr.Frank was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He retired from C&P Telephone in 1982. He was an avid hunter and bird watcher and loved country and bluegrass music.Frank leaves two sons, George Hofmann of Hanover and Timothy Hofmann, Sr. of Glenville; two daughters and their spouses, Denise and Gary Bankert of Glenville, and Carol and Randy Miller of Spring Grove; 13 grandchildren, Erica Hicks, Joey Hofmann, Nicole Ash, Timothy Hofmann, Jr., Lindsey Hofmann, Andy Hofmann, Blake Hofmann, Megan Patterson, Mandi Fincham, Justin Miller, Marc Miller, Jenna Miller, and Michael Miller; and 20 great-grandchildren. Frank was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca D. Hofmann; a son, Michael F. Hofmann; and two brothers, George Hofmann, Jr. and James Hofmann.Contributions in Frank's memory may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka , KS 66675.
