Fuji A. Smith, 96, passed from this life from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on July 4, 2024. She was the loving wife of the late Merle L. Smith who passed in 2018. Born in Japan, she was the daughter of the late Kamasaburo and Nami Aihara. Fuji had worked at AMP for many years.
She was involved with the New Freedom Senior Center where she worked on their quilts, in addition to knitting over 1,000 hats and scarves for cancer patients. Her family was very important to her.
Surviving are two children, Warren L. Smith of Shrewsbury and Joyce R. Smith-Fitz and her husband, Robert, of Aspers; 2 grandchildren, Nicole Smith-Zeigler and her husband, Jason, and Kory Fitz; 2 great grandchildren, Azlynn Zeigler and Trenton Fitz; and a sister, Fumie Aoki of Japan.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a public viewing Friday, July 12, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. 2nd St., New Freedom, PA 17349 with a funeral starting at 11:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens of York following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fuji’s memory to the New Freedom Senior Center, 150 E. Main St., New Freedom, PA 17349. HartensteinCares.com.
