George Beck

July 26, 1926 — June 22, 2016

George Beck, Jr., 89, formerly of Port Charlotte, FL., entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at the home of his niece, Charlotte Purzycki. Born on July 26, 1926, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late George Beck and Ethel (Jester) Krull. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Gaeng, Doris Johnson and Norma Bozman, and one niece. He is survived by nine nieces and their extended families. George also leaves many close friends to mourn his loss. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him. George was a veteran with the US Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1975. His tour of duty had taken him from the Arctic to the Antarctic where he had participated in “Operation Deep Freeze”. George was a very talented, creative, kind and generous person. He enjoyed sketching, painting and wood carving. He liked nothing better than to spend time with his good friends feasting on steamed crabs and then washing them down with a cold beer or two. Following cremation, a family gathering will be held to celebrate and to remember our dear uncle’s life. It was a life well-lived indeed. To honor George’s many charitable acts, please consider lending a helping hand to someone in need. If you desire, memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125, or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 2405 Park Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110. The J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc. of New Freedom is assisting the family.
