George “Wendell” Hostler, 94, of Jarrettsville, MD, passed away Monday, December 4,2023. Born on November 22, 1929, in Fawn Grove, PA, he was the son of the late G. Walter and Margaret Belle (Wilson) Hostler.

He was the loving husband to Franie “Elizabeth” Hostler, who passed in April 2023. They shared 68 years of marriage together.

Wendell was always active in serving his community. He was a lifelong member of the Citizens Volunteer Fire Company of Fawn Grove where he served as their treasurer for 16 years. On their 125th Year Anniversary Celebration, Wendell was honored as “oldest living member”. He was a proud member of the Masonic Friendship Lodge #663, and a marine veteran. Wendell served as a front-line sharpshooter in the Korean War and was honored in 1952 with a Purple Heart Medal in appreciated for his devotion to duty. Wendell was also very active in Olde Tyme Days in Fawn Grove, and he served as the treasurer for them for 16 years.

Wendell was employed for many years at the former Fawn Grove Manufacturing Company and retired from his employment for the Harford County Highway Department. He enjoyed sharing stories about his trucking experiences.

Wendell leaves to honor his legacy, his niece Weldene Hostler Baertl Smith and his nephew Carroll Scott and his wife Shirley. He was considered family by many local families, including his neighbors, James and Janet Archer and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Weldon and Wilson “Bud” Hostler, his wife and their beloved daughter Elizabeth Rae Hostler.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a viewing from 1:00-2:00pm, Friday, December 15th at Fawn Grove Community Church; 67 S. Market St, Fawn Grove, PA. The funeral service will begin at 2:00pm at the church. Interment will follow at Centre Presbyterian Cemetery in New Park, PA.

Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc. 19 S. Main St, Stewartstown, PA is assisting the family with services.
