George Theofiles, 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on the evening of June 20th, 2022. He was an adored husband, father, papou, teacher, and friend. Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, his family later moved to Seaford, Delaware, where his parents owned the Blue and Gray Restaurant. George played football in high school and was an avid collector of militaria and ephemera from an early age. He graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1969 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and subsequently taught art in the Baltimore City Public School system. George started his business, Miscellaneous Man, in 1970 and opened his first store in the Fell’s Point neighborhood of Baltimore. He relocated Miscellaneous Man to southern Pennsylvania and married Shirley Dellinger, whom he called “the best thing that ever happened to [him].” The business expanded after George’s award-winning restoration of a 19th century bank barn in Glen Rock, PA that was repurposed as a gallery and offices. George was a well-respected authority on vintage posters and graphics and had many well-recognized clients including the Smithsonian Institutes, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The White House, and the Library of Congress. He was an adjunct professor and taught the History of Graphic Design at York College of Pennsylvania for more than 10 years. George is preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Pandora (English) Theofiles. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley (Dellinger), his two children: Alexander Theofiles (wife, Meghan) and Nina (Theofiles) Fenstermacher (husband, Zachary), his three grandchildren: Callie Theofiles, Christopher Theofiles, and Lillian Fenstermacher, his brother, John Theofiles (wife, Lois), and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the charities George supported: the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank of Harrisburg, the SPCA, the Humane Society, or Doctors Without Borders. A celebration of life will take place at Brown’s Orchards in Seven Valleys, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, July 28th, 2022 at 2:00 PM.
