Harry C. Sweeney, 99, of New Freedom passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Manor Care. He was the loving husband of the late Hilda O. (Trabert) Sweeney who passed away November 5, 2019. Born in Shrewsbury, he was a son of the late John R. and Elsie L. (Decker) Sweeney. Harry was a graduate of W. York High School and attended Gettysburg College before entering the Marine Corps. He served during WWII in the South Pacific. He managed a store for RC Schuhart (International Harvester) and was warehouse supervisor for Charles Summers. Harry was the last surviving charter member of Bon Air Country Club where he worked on the grounds committee served as President and worked in the Pro Shop. He enjoyed playing golf with his son in the Wednesday night league and late wife, in the Sunday night couples league. He was a member of the New Freedom VFW and was a 76 year member of the Glen Rock American Legion. Harry was also a member of St. John Lutheran Church in New Freedom where he had served on the grounds and building committees. He is survived by his son Cary W. Sweeney and his wife Angela; two grandchildren Gabriel Sweeney and his wife Mary and Shanon Sweeney and his wife Kristin; two great-grandchildren Aiden and Azlyn. Memorial services will be held Friday, November 5, 2021 at 11AM from Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. Inurnment will follow in New Freedom Cemetery with military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitations will be held Thursday evening from 5-7pm and on Friday from 10am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
