Helen L. Devoe

Helen L. DeVoe, 75, died Monday, August 15, at her home. She was wife of R. Neal DeVoe with whom she had celebrated 52 years of marriage on July 18. Helen was born July 5, 1941 in Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Oscar George and Madge (Boyles) Harris Fowler. She retired in 1999 following 22 years employment with the Southeastern School District as a secretary. Helen was previously employed with Federal Reserve Bank of Baltimore as a sorter from 1963 until 1964, and at Bainbridge Naval as a supervisor from 1967 until 1973. She was a member of Stewart American Legion Post #455 Ladies Auxiliary of Stewartstown. Helen loved cooking, crocheting, reading and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with her friends to attend plays and musicals. In addition to her husband, Neal, Helen leaves a son, Arthur H. DeVoe of Pylesville, MD; two grandchildren, Shane and Cameron DeVoe; a brother, Frank R. Harris and his wife, Louise of Parkersburg, WV; a sister, Carolyn Nesselroade and her husband, John of Charlottesville, VA; and a half-sister, Dorothy J. Seders of Clarksburg, WV. Helen was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. A public viewing will be held on Friday, August 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday, August 20, from 10 to 11 a.m. from the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Melissa A. McDade and the Rev. Deborah Miley officiating. Burial is in Fawn Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Mason-Dixon Public Library, 250 Bailey Drive, Stewartstown, PA 17363, or to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
