Helen Irene (Measley) Dunnick, 102, was called home by our Lord on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 12:55 a.m. She was the wife of the late Marvin L. Dunnick and they lived in Shrewsbury for over 50 years. Born in New Freedom on January 2, 1916, Helen was the daughter of the late John C. and Nora (Routson) Measley. Helen graduated from Stewartstown High School in 1933 and worked at the Greif Coat Factory in Stewartstown for ten years. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and Sunday School since 1944, a member of choirs for 50 years, taught Sunday School classes, and was a member of the Women's Missionary Society. In the 40's, Helen was assistant Girl Scout Leader in Stewartstown and later "Flower Garden Project" leader of Shrewsbury 4-H group. She was a member of the flower show committee for a number of years and continued as a participant. She volunteered for 25 years at the Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Shrewsbury, and at The Village at Kelly Drive, York from 1960-1970. In 1969, she was presented the Glen Rock American Legion Post 403 Good Citizenship Award. Helen enjoyed visiting, volunteering, writing poetry, flower arranging, needlework, seed pictures, gardening and making greeting cards. There will be a service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Christ Lutheran Church, 105 S. Main Street, Shrewsbury, PA 17361. A viewing will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Memorial contributions in Helen's name may be made to: Christ Lutheran Church, at the address listed above.
