Helen Almeda (Lutz) Orwig, age, 95 of Stewartstown, was ushered to heaven by the Lord’s angels on December 23, 2022. She was the loving wife of the late Luther W. Orwig who passed away March 18, 2014; together they celebrated 66 years of marriage. The couple was married on August 22, 1947.
Born March 2, 1927 in East Hopewell Township, York County, she was the daughter of the late Nelson O. and Blanche (Kinard) Lutz. Helen was employed by Greif Manufacturing Company in Stewartstown for 19 years as a seamstress, and retired as a printer for Autokraft Corporation after 9 years of service. She is a member of St. John’s (Sadler’s) Lutheran Church.
She was dedicated to her favorite pastimes of bird watching, baking for friends and family, and gardening. Every spring brought such joy with the return of her 200+ spring tulips, bluebirds, and a new Phillies season. Helen kept her sharp mind busy by answering Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune questions nightly along with reading a vast variety of biography books. But, most of all, she was happiest spending vacations and holidays with family and continued to travel up and down the east coast creating memories with her great-grandchildren. Through her passion for cooking, she brought together friends and family to create lasting traditions that have been passed on through her recipes and love to her grandchildren.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Karen B. Orwig of Muhlenberg Township, Berks County, and Krista L. Walton (husband Curt) of Spring City, Chester County; her grandchildren, Dr. Karie L. Walton-Buonopane of Massachusetts (husband Mike), and Green Beret Veteran James Kendal Walton of North Carolina; her great-grandchildren Natalija Walton and Fionn and Rhys Buonopane as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Maynard (wife Mildred), Melvin (wife Evelyn), and Norman (wife Janet) Lutz.
