Helen Virginia Stewart

Helen Virginia Stewart, 94, of Abingdon, MD, passed away Tuesday, October 10 at her home. Born in Flemington, WV, she was the daughter to the late Homer and Jessie (Keener) Whitehair. She was the loving wife of Walter N. Stewart, who passed in 2007.

Helen enjoyed watching the Baltimore Orioles, doing word search puzzles, watching Steve Harvey on Family Feud and she especially loved the FaceTime calls and watching the videos of her great granddaughter, Presley. Thank you Beth (and Presley) for all the smiles you always knew how to put on Gma’s face! Helen was a Member of the PA Order of the Eastern Star and Fawn Grove Community Church.

Helen is survived by her daughters and caregivers, Carol Stewart, Abingdon, MD, Darlene (Mark) Browning, Stewartstown, PA, her son, Roger Stewart, Bel Air, MD, who was her daily telephone companion and weekly visitor. Helen is also survived by sons Ronald (Diane), Lester, and Walter (Judith), 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law, Charles & Marge Whitehair, Oklahoma City, OK, and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, LCpl Kenneth A. Stewart, brothers, William and Paul Whitehair, and sister Nancy Laughlin, and daughter in law Donna Stewart, along with her husband and parents.

Helen and her daughters appreciated all the additional support and care given by Mark Browning, Debbie Behrens, Pat Schultz, Edie Johnson, the staff from Right at Home and her amazing Amedisys Hospice Home Care Team, Jen and Keaira. Thank you for what you do!

A public viewing will be held Tuesday, October 17 from 3-6pm, as well as Wednesday, October 18 from 10-11am at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc. 19 S. Main St, Stewartstown, PA 17363. A funeral service will follow on Wednesday, October 18 beginning at 11am at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Cemetery in Fawn Grove, PA.
