Hugh Leonard "Lenny"

On June 10, 2018, Hugh "Lenny" Poe, 69, passed away at home. Born on April 21, 1949 in Baltimore County, MD, he was the son of James "Frank" and the late Catherine (Reider) Poe. He married Vicki Wagner and they had two daughters, Kelsey and Hailey who continue to live on the family farm, and Jarvis Green from Red Lion, PA, who was like a son. Besides his loved ones at home, Lenny is survived by his father, Frank; and brothers, James, William and Danny Poe; sister, Lillian Eligson; and daughter, Michelle. Others include five sister-in-laws; four brother-in-laws; nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Lenny is missed by his close friends in NJ as well as his devoted canine companions. Lenny conquered many medical complications, any of which would have stopped most people. Dealing with cancer, kidney failure, broken neck and back, and heart failure are just a few; he never ceased to amaze his medical team, family and friends. He spent days, weeks and sometimes months in the hospital and seldom missed a chance to make someone smile with a joke or two. He was well known for lending a hand and going the extra mile. He was best known for his jokes (not always appropriate) and music. He played in the Country Ramblers, Shenandoah, and The Ghostriders bands. Most recently he enjoyed jamming with local bands and friends. As a husband and father, Lenny was a dedicated supporter of their various endeavors and took great pride in their accomplishments. He had a great love for wolves and was a member of various wolf/wolfdog groups. He was a founder, executive board member, and vice president of Lupine AWAREness. Lenny was involved in the purchase of a radio tracking collar for one of the first wolves released in Yellowstone. He attended Hereford High School and worked at Henry Knott Construction before a 40 year career at Baltimore County Schools. He moonlighted at Giant Foods. He was also a member of the Stewartstown American Legion and Stewartstown VFW. Viewing will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, at Norrisville U.M. Church, 2811 W Church Lane, White Hall, MD. Interment will follow in Bel Air Memorial Gardens, Bel Air, MD. Rev. Melissa A. McDade will officiate.
