Irene Jean Orwig

Irene Jean Orwig, 86, passed from this life on Thursday, January 2, 2025. She was the loving wife to the late Harold L. ‘Jack’ Orwig who passed on July16, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Howard ‘Teddy’ and Christine ‘Teenie’ (Leviskevich) Waltemyer.

Irene was born and raised on a dairy farm in Norrisville, MD. She later became a prep cook for several well-known restaurants around the Baltimore area. She enjoyed gardening, canning and preparing big meals for her family. She loved wildlife and time spent with family at the cabin in the PA mountains. She also loved her Pomeranian dogs, Raphael and Charlie.

Surviving are three children, Douglas Orwig, Brenda Coster and her husband, Michael, and Tammy Lane and her husband, Mark; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Arlen Zimmerman and Geradine ‘Jenny’ Stone and her husband, Will; and many nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by a son, Jack Anderson Jr. on December 5, 2015,  2 brothers, Robert Waltemyer and Richard Waltemyer, and 4 sisters, Christine Simpson, Mary Ecker, Ellen Leisenring, and Carol Cleary.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a viewing from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown, PA 17363. There will be a second viewing on Thursday, January 9, at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc. from 11 a.m. until a service begins at 12 noon. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Joseph Giesey Memorial Cemetery in Shrewsbury immediately following the service. HartensteinCares.com
