Ivan R. White was born of Silas N. White and Jean Dorsey on June 15, 1970. Ivan entered into the City of God on October 11 after a courageous fight against cancer.
Ivan (Toi) was born in Baltimore, Maryland the youngest child following two sisters, Nieci and Eileen. At age 5, he lost his mother to pancreatic cancer and was subsequently raised by his sisters and father who worked a multitude of jobs to take care of the family.
Ivan attended Saint Williams of York Catholic School from kindergarten to 8th grade and graduated in 1985. Ivan then attended The Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and received his high school diploma in 1989. He attended Morgan State University and graduated on May 22, 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Sciences.
From 1988 to 1989 Ivan worked at Ken and Ray, fixing typewriters and calculators.
From 1989 to 1997 Ivan worked at Cytodiagnostics Cancer Screening Laboratory, where he was responsible for computer programming and data entry. He maintained this full-time job (he often said this was the best time in his life working alongside his father) to put himself through college, which he also attended full-time.
In 1997, Ivan joined the Baltimore Police Department. He worked in the Northeast District as a patrolman, the Criminal Investigation Division as a detective, and as an agent in the Chief of Patrol’s Office.
On January 9, 1999, Ivan married the love of his life, Elena “Monica” Castillano, and they bought their first house in Nottingham Maryland. They later built a vacation/retirement home in the Philippines. Together, Ivan and Monica built a life that featured many trips, terrific meals, and lots of laughter. And they loved their dogs: Seven, Mika, Anakin Jake (AJ), Cody, and Sky – who they treated like their children. Seven passed away in January 2010 followed by Mika in October 2015.
Throughout their more than 25 years of marriage, Ivan and Monica loved each other through thick and thin.
Much like his father, Ivan loved automobiles. Much like his mother, he loved Niagara Falls. He also loved rock-n-roll and heavy metal, professional wrestling, video games, and playing his guitars. Ivan took great pleasure in doing various home improvement projects around his home.
Ivan was predeceased by his parents and his siblings Saul White and Deborah White. He is survived by his wife; sisters Laure Nieci Adkins (Allen), Eileen “Sunshine” Thomas (Rodney), Geneva Thomas (William), Karen White, Earlene Ferguson, Veronica “Ronnie” White; stepchildren; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives he made better.
