Jim left the loving arms of his wife, Sandy, to the waiting arms of his Savior on October 14, 2024. He left to cherish his memory his children Jim, Jr. and Jackie (Ross) Winterson; grandchildren Josh and Anna Joy, Lauren (Eric) Landis and Ashley Winterson, great grandchildren Brayden and Aubree Landis and Saylor Arrowood. Jim accomplished so much in his 91 years and much of it was services to others. He was a teacher and an elementary school principal for almost 25 years, having received two master degrees and a doctorate in education. He loved the kids. He belonged to several educational associations, contributing much. Children's education was so important to him so when he retired, he served on the Southern York County School Board, a few years as president. He contributed to this community by serving on the borough council. Jim was a member and past commander of V.F.W. Post 7012. He belonged to Shrewsbury Masonic Lodge 423, National Sojourners Chapter 76 and High Twelve Club 668. Jim’s military career was exemplary. He served in Korea receiving 2 purple hearts, 2 bronze stars and a silver star. He retired from the Army Reserves after about 30 years with the rank of Colonel. He had attended several different schools including the Army War College in Carlisle which was an honor for a reservist. He loved his country. Jim's baseball “career” was something else. He loved the game. He was a “lefty” pitcher for the Milwaukee Braves farm team but blew his arm. Later in life he went to four “Fantasy” Camps in Florida, the final one when he was 70, winning the championship on “Etch’s” Thumpers (Andy Etchebarren). He also played in the Old Timers League. But the most important thing in his life was his family. He loved them so very much and was so proud of them. He would do anything for them.
