Janet Mae Wilson

March 9, 1952 — January 16, 2022

Janet Mae Wilson passed away on January 16, 2022. She was born on March 9, 1952 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late James and Doris Mae (Zeisloft) Rowe. Janet was married for the last 15 years to the love of her life, Gregory E. Wilson. Janwas self-employed for many years as a transcriptionist. She was also very involved in her church community at Grace United Methodist Church and helped create their food bank, “Gifts of Grace.” Jan was a long time community activist. From working with homeless women to making space for food and supplies to be distributed to anyone in need, Jan was always one to find a need and fill a need. That drive led Jan to her most recent passion and the founding of Sparrow Place. After five long years of diligent work, Jan opened the doors of this non-profit organization to women who survived human trafficking. As the CEO, she was responsible for community outreach, speaking engagements, board development and bringing her vision to fruition. Jan loved her church and her work as much as she loved her family. She and her husband Greg had been high school sweethearts and remained in contact, off and on, for 57 years. And, although their lives took different paths after high school, God and faith brought them back together. It is not often that people find their missing piece in this life- Jan and Greg were part of this lucky few. Along with her husband Greg, Jan is survived by her loving children- Stephen Vernon and Nicole Ramos, her five adoring grandchildren- Justin Vernon, Raymond Vernon, Nehemiah Ramos, Marilyn Ramos and Ezrael Ramos, and her dear sister and best friend, Diane Young.Jan was preceded in death by her brother and sister, David Rowe and Linda Guiou. She was loved by many and will be missed by all whose lives were touched by her grace, honesty, warmth, and generosity. A funeral celebration will begin at 2:00 pm, on Friday, January 21st, at Grace United Methodist Church, 473 Plank Rd., New Freedom, PA 17349. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to www.sparrowplace.org or canned goods can be dropped off at the church for “Gifts of Grace.”
