John L. Basta, Sr.

John L. Basta, Sr., 85, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024, at his daughter's home. He was the loving husband of the late Rose M. Basta of 57 years. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Michael M. and Anna (Bellman) Basta. He was a hard-working man whose greatest joy was providing for and spending time with his family. A long-time member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, he proudly served as an usher for many years. He enjoyed bowling, card games, and woodworking, and was known for his ingenuity, generosity, comforting hugs, and back scratches.

John is survived by his daughter, Connie McNeil; his son, John L. Basta, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Christina Palermo; his three grandchildren, Alex, Zack, and Caden; and one great-grandchild, Carter. He was preceded in death by his nine siblings. He is remembered by many as a genuinely good man.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation honoring John's life on Sunday, June 16, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. 2nd St, New Freedom, PA 17349. The funeral liturgy will be on Monday, June 17, at 12:00 pm at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave, New Freedom, PA.
